Indiana Assessment Interface — working prototype

A functioning facsimile of how IREAD-3 and ILEARN are administered in 2025–26: the same segment structure, item types, on-screen tools, navigation flow, and score reporting, built entirely from Indiana's published specifications.

What this is, and what it is not

This is not a real test, and it contains no secure test content. Operational IREAD and ILEARN items are secure and are not published. Everything here is built from public documents: the IREAD-3 ELA Item Specifications, the ILEARN Item Specifications, the current Indiana Assessment Framework blueprints, the 2025–26 Test Administrator's Manual, the IREAD Online Testing Script, the Accessibility and Accommodations manual, and the Cambium Test Delivery System tool documentation.

Item content is of two kinds, labelled on every item. IDOE sample means the item is reproduced from an IDOE-published item-specifications document. Written to spec means we wrote it to Indiana's published item-writing rules for that standard — correct in form, standard, reporting category and item type, but not drawn from any real form. What the prototype reproduces faithfully

Structure

IREAD's three segments, with segment 1 holding the phonics and vocabulary items and segments 2–3 holding passage-linked items

Item types

IREAD: multiple choice and multi-part multiple choice only — no technology-enhanced items, no constructed response. The MMC is a numbered-blank cloze, using the stem printed in the item specifications.
ILEARN: multiple choice, multi-select, table match, hot text, hot spot, drag and drop, equation response, numeric response, table input, text entry, short answer, and the essay editor on the performance task.

Calculator and the Mathematics Reference Sheet render as unavailable at grade 3, which is correct — grades 3–5 are non-calculator, and the reference sheet begins at grade 4
On IREAD, text-to-speech and human reader are restricted to directions

Scoring

IREAD applies the published linear transformation SS = 74.81 θ + 516.44, clamped to 200–650, against the 446 cut
The IREAD report shows percent correct by reporting category and reports a Lexile measure only for students who did not pass, matching the published convention
ILEARN reports against the real grade 3 cut scores — ELA 5416 / 5460 / 5515, math 6382 / 6425 / 6488
Reporting categories use the three-state Below / At-Near / Above Standard indicator

Where the prototype had to approximate

Built August 2026 against the 2025–26 administration. Indiana replaced its 2020 standards codes with the 2023 codes, and both assessments now report against the 2023 set — so ELA items carry 3.RF and 3.RC codes rather than the older 3.RL / 3.RN / 3.RV codes, and math carries 3.CA rather than 3.C and 3.AT. Legacy blueprint PDFs still posted on in.gov use the older codes.
